How does ADAGEL 0.1%+2.5% Plus Gel work?

ADAGEL Plus Gel is a combination of two medicines: Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide, which treat acne (pimples). Adapalene is a form of vitamin A and Benzoyl Peroxide is a keratolytic medicine. Together, they prevent the accumulation of sebum (skin’s natural oil), unblock the pores, and allow natural exfoliation of the outer layers of the skin. Benzoyl Peroxide additionally penetrates the skin and kills acne-causing bacteria.

Side Effects of ADAGEL Plus Gel

Common side effects include erythema, scaling, dryness, stinging, and burning. Other reported adverse events are dry skin, contact dermatitis, application site burning, irritation, and skin irritation.

Quick Suggestions:

• Apply it to the affected area once a day at bedtime.
• It makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen or wear protective clothing while stepping out.
• Avoid getting it in your eyes or mouth. If this happens, rinse with water immediately.
• Do not apply to broken, sunburnt, or sensitive areas of skin. Inform your doctor if you notice unusual dryness, redness, and peeling of the skin.
• Be careful when applying Adapalene + Benzoyl Peroxide to large areas since it can bleach hair, clothing, and furnishings upon contact.

Indications:

Adapalene & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel is used for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris in patients aged 12 and older.

Pharmacology

Adapalene in the gel binds to specific retinoic acid nuclear receptors, influencing cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammatory processes. It normalizes follicular epithelial cell differentiation, reducing microcomedone formation. Benzoyl Peroxide is an oxidizing agent with bactericidal and keratolytic effects.

Administration of ADAGEL 0.1%+2.5% Plus Gel

Apply a thin layer of Adapalene & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel to affected areas of the face and/or trunk once daily after washing. Use a pea-sized amount for each part of the face (e.g., forehead, chin, each cheek). Avoid contact with eyes, lips, and mucous membranes. This gel is not intended for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.

Pediatric Use: Safety and effectiveness in children under 12 years have not been established.

Interaction

Caution is advised when using other topical acne treatments simultaneously due to potential cumulative irritant effects, particularly with peeling, desquamating, or abrasive agents. No formal drug-drug interaction studies have been conducted.

Contraindications

ADAGEL 0.1%+2.5% Plus Gel should not be used by individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no well-controlled studies of Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide use in pregnant women. Animal studies have not been conducted with this combination. Therefore, use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown if Adapalene or Benzoyl Peroxide is excreted in human milk. Use caution when administering to nursing women.

Precautions & Warnings

Avoid exposure to sunlight and sunlamps. Use sunscreen if sun exposure is unavoidable.

Storage Conditions:

Store in a cool place (below 25°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and ensure the tube is tightly closed after use.
